Hey everybody, I’m Gracie, the new Director of PNP here at PRB. Here are some shows happening this week that you should check out:
Monday, March 3
Matt Costa, Jonathan Rice, Bowery Ballroom, New York
Parts & Labor, Red Rocket, Ecstatic Sunshine, Danger! Danger! Gallery, Philadelphia
I saw Parts & Labor live a few years ago- totally awesome.
Say Hi, Johnny Brenda’s, Philadephia
Former Say Hi to Your Mom; the new album’s supposed to be decent.
Tuesday, March 4
Beastie Boys, Terminal 5, New York
It’s a benefit show with Moby as the emcee. How can you not go?
Boris, Knitting Factory, New York
Boris is awesome. Boris is playing live. Go.
The Walkmen, White Rabbits, Webster Hall, New York
It’s the Walkmen. Enough said.
Born Ruffians, Cadence Weapon, Johnny Brenda’s, Philadelphia
I haven’t seen Born Ruffians live, but I’ve heard very good things… let me know.
Wednesday, March 5
The Stills, Johnny Brenda’s, Philadelphia
The Slits, Shellshag, Mercury Lounge, New York
THE SLITS!
Akron/Family, Megafun, Maxwell’s, Hoboken
Thursday, March 6
2008 PLUG Awars with Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, St. Vincent, Dizzee Rascal and more, Terminal 5, New York
Everybody who’s anybody in indie rock will be there.
The Hives, Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Friday, March 7
Ra Ra Riot, Bear Hands, Sam Rosen, Bowery Ballroom, New York
A friend of mine saw Ra Ra Riot live and can’t stop raving about it.
MSTRKRFT, LA Riots, Lazaro Casanova, the Bloody Beatroots, Studio B, New York
Sally Shapiro, Mercury Lounge, New York
Sally Shapiro has a nice, dance-y album that has gone relatively unnoticed. Her show is going to be very fun and dancealicious.
Saturday, March 8
Lightspeed Champion, Union Pool, Brooklyn
Working for a Nuclear Free City, Music Hall of Williamsburg, Brooklyn
I really like this band. They do instrumental, Joy Division-esque electronic music. This show needs to be seen!
Jose Gonzalez, World Cafe Live, Philadelphia
What can I say about Jose? His songs are perfect. I haven’t listened to the new album, but “Veneer” is the perfect singer-songwriter-with-a-guitar album.
Sunday, March 9
Yuka Honda (Cibo Matto), Doveman, Luke Temple, Samamidon, Mercury Lounge, New York
Those are this week’s highlights. If you manage to make it to any of the shows, send us some photos and reviews to put up on the blog!
