Hump Day Extravaganza 1: Low End Theory NYC
Raymond’s Hump Day Extravaganza –
Welcome to the first ever Hump Day Extravaganza! I’m sure you’re curious, so I will cut straight to the chase. Personally, I sometimes find it difficult to make it through an entire week without some kind of mental ‘pivot point’. For me, that’s Hump Day aka Wednesday. So, without further ado, I present our topic this week:
Low End Theory NYC
To set the stage, the Low End Theory started as a weekly event (it also happens on hump day) in Los Angeles. Resident DJs include Daddy Kev, Nobody, Gaslamp Killer, D-Styles and resident MC Nocando (2007 Scribble Jam Battle Champ). In addition to these core DJs, Low End Theory has hosted a huge family of independent hip hop, electronia, experimental artists. But you live on the east coast, and probably weren’t paying attention to any of this until last Saturday night, which began the first of (hopefully) many Low End Theory NYC, at the Knitting Factory. Currently, Low End Theory NYC is scheduled to drop on the first Saturday of every month. Last weekend featured Flying Lotus, which was absolutely incredible. Everybody really held it down, I’ve seen a bunch of these guys a number of times and they keep things really fresh. D-Styles blew everyone away with raw turntablism. So keep your eye out for Low End Theory, on April 5th Daedelus will be the guest performer, which will be appropriately insane.
