Two WPRB DJs had the privilege of checking out the most recent Architecture in Helsinki show last Friday night at The Fillmore – Irving Plaza in New York City. Over the next few weeks, we are going to listen to Thomas Sauer’s performances of three Beethoven piano sonatas from Opus 31, the 16th, 17th and 18th. I plan to begin on November 7th with number sixteen, a sonata that my Aunt Lucy, a fine, professional classical pianist, called “The Girl Next Door Sonata.” To help make sense of this nickname, I must start with an anecdote about my aunt.
